Town of Mt. Pleasant Mugsy Kerr Tennis Complex Expansion
In support of a rapidly growing community the Town has determined the need for the expansion of its Tennis Complex located at 889 Whipple Road, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department (MPRD) hosts a variety of tennis programs for all ages and experience levels from group clinics, summer camps and private lessons to competitive tournaments and league play. MPRD has seen continual growth in both junior and adult programming with up to 250 youth participants in after-school clinics a week. MPRD currently supports more USTA adult league teams than any facility in the state of South Carolina and has over 900 adult members. The tennis complex expansion will allow MPRD to not only support additional league teams but allow other programming to expand and allow public play simultaneously which is currently a problem.
This project will expand the existing Mugsy Kerr Tennis Complex with the addition of four new hard courts, two clay courts and more restroom facilities. This expansion will also include improvements to ADA accessibility to better serve all members of the community. The facility is named after Mugsy Kerr, a former Mount Pleasant councilmember who shared an immense amount of passion and support for the town’s recreation department and tennis programs. Kerr’s dedication to recreation and the impact she made on the town will continue to be honored for years to come through this facility.
