Dade City to Dedicate New Government Complex

Public invited to ceremony on Friday, March 11th at 10:30 a.m.

Mayor Camille Hernandez and the members of the City Commission of Dade City would like to invite the public to a ribbon-cutting ceremony dedicating Dade City’s new City Hall-Police Department government complex, at 38020 Meridian Avenue, on Friday, March 11th, at 10:30 a.m.

Designed by Wannemacher Jensen Architects, Inc., the new City Hall and Police Department campus will usher in a new age for government services in the City. The 21,000 square foot building was built by Ajax Building Corporation and “offers modern facilities that will surely improve constituent service delivery by consolidating operations – including building permits, code enforcement, and utilities – all in one location”, said City Manager William C. Poe, Jr. City Hall features an attractive Commission chamber, with a panoramic view of Meridian Avenue.

In addition, the $6.6 million project includes a state-of-the-art police department and emergency operations center, significantly enhancing public safety services in the City. Chief Raymond Velboom said, “The building was designed specifically to address the law enforcement demands of the 21st century.” Specifically, the police department facility will utilize innovative technologies to bolster its operations through a secure sally port and cellblock, hard and soft interview rooms, a safe room, contemporary forensics and property/evidence areas and conference/training rooms.

The ceremony will include introductions by Mr. Poe, remarks from Mayor Hernandez, City Engineer Gordon Onderdonk and Chief Ray Velboom, as well as representatives from Wannemacher Jensen and Ajax.

The program will also recognize the placement of a time capsule containing City and Police Department photographs, documents and memorabilia, which has been embedded within the lobby walls of the police department. A reception will follow the ceremony.
