Volusia County Branch Jail Mental Health Dormitory
The Volusia County Branch Jail is the central inmate intake facility for the Division of Corrections and is located at 1300 Red John Drive in Daytona Beach, Florida. Since the jail opened in 1987, the demand for inmate housing has increased beyond safe physical limitations. The County sought to construct 2 new inmate mental health dorms with-in one new freestanding approximately 11,800 sqft, single story building. The building was constructed with CMU and structural steel and features two open day rooms with showers and open lavatories.
Each building has a classroom, a security office with a staff lavatory, a medical office, and additional storage rooms. The mental health dormitory’s construction also included security detention and anti-ligature hardware. The roof systems were a R-30 rigid polyiso system, with a fully adhered 60 MIL PVC fleece back single ply membrane roof. The project included all required site and utility improvements to support the new buildings as shown on documents. The New Dormitories at the Volusia County Branch Jail were constructed to include green, sustainable construction features found on the LEED checklist.
