Columbia County is relocating their County Detention Facility to be co-located with the existing Columbia County Sheriff’s Administrative Complex. The project consists of building a new Detention Facility on the property where the current Sheriff’s Administration complex is located. The new Detention Facility will consist of two Housing Pods with its Core support functions. One housing POD will be fully fitted out to house 256 inmates. The other housing POD will be fitted out to house 128 inmates. These housing PODs and adjacent Core Support building will be constructed of a Pre Engineered Metal Building system with a standing seam metal roof. The individual cells with be constructed of precast concrete. The Core Support areas will house a new kitchen, medical area, booking/intake along with the other ancillary support areas required for a fully functioning facility. The sitework will include two new holding ponds, and installing all required underground utilities and asphalt paving areas.

The City of Venice’s current police station was first built in 1990 and this new facility will incorporate innovations to meet the modern needs of its community. In the 26 years since the station was built, public safety has taken even more responsibility in response to an increase in active shooter scenarios.
