Students respond to ‘last call before the wrecking ball’ at Oglesby Union

Students turned the courtyard of Oglesby Union into an impromptu block party, vendors welcomed new customers and a food truck fed the hungry Wednesday as the countdown continues to the closing of the iconic structure at Florida State University. On May 7, prep work begins toward construction of a nearly 300,000-square-foot union complex that could cost roughly $100 million.

The Project Manager on the library for Sarasota County, Kim Humphrey, said the work is on schedule meaning that construction is still anticipated to be complete by late Fall. Starting May 1, county residents will be invited to community meetings from 10:30 a.m. to noon and 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. as part of a topping-off ceremony.

Ajax Building Corporation joined Pasco County Schools in a January Topping Out ceremony to celebrate the last beam being placed on the county’s first STEM magnet school. Ajax Building Corporation has begun work on Tapestry Senior Living of Tallahassee, an amenity-rich three-acre assisted living, memory care and rehabilitation community in close proximity to the new Centre of Tallahassee and I-10. The $10.8 million project involves converting the former Wingate Hotel into a 105-unit assisted living facility.
