Wall Signing Celebrates Progress of Clearwater Countryside Library
Clearwater, FL — Selfies gave way to signatures on Valentines Day as hundreds of local residents showed their love with a personal message on an inside wall of the Countryside Library currently under construction in Clearwater.
The public was invited Feb. 14 to come sign their name on the wall — and leave a doodle to add a little whimsy. Ajax Building Corporation is expected to complete the $6.5 million library project in July, and the building is scheduled to open to the public later this year.
Hearts were the doddle of the day, followed by kitty cat caricatures and smiley faces. Even a “Kilroy Was Here” image was left as a reminder of the super soldier from WWII.
Other personal comments included, “I like big books and I cannot lie…Our library is awesome…16 years old and reads adult romance.”
About 300 people signed the wall, Library Foundation Director Judy Melges said, including Mayor George Creteko and Councilmember Bill Johnson and his daughter and grandchildren.
The 22,500 square-foot library, located next to the Countryside Recreation Center at 2641 Sabal Springs Drive, will replace the existing 25-year-old branch. In designing the facility, residents contributed their ideas and wishes for the single-story building that will serve as the “heart” of the Countryside community.
