Starting Right, Now Renames their St. Petersburg Facility The Ajax House at Haven South
St. Petersburg, FL – October 12, 2018 – Ajax Building Corporation will join Starting Right Now, Tampa’s homeless youth outreach organization, for an official naming ceremony of Haven South, a five month renovation of more than $1 million in donated time and materials from Ajax and local vendors/subcontractors back in 2016.
The empty Pinellas County Schools Harris TIPS School did not stay that way for long as it was the perfect vacant opportunity for Starting Right Now to expand their resources from Hillsborough County into Pinellas County. It was also an excellent chance for both Ajax and local subcontractors to give back to a community they love and to a cause they respect. The project was funded entirely from private donations.
Haven South, soon to be The Ajax House at Haven South, is a 11,230 square foot dormitory that houses unaccompanied youths attending high school. It contains separate boys and girls wings, a common area, full kitchen, dining room, training center and computer labs. The Ajax House at Haven South is more than safe shelter for these kids, it is a supportive and stable home. Starting Right Now strives to teach them life skills such as financial literacy, offers one on one mentoring, supports them in their academic achievement and even assists them in finding employment.
Because of the growing need in Pinellas County to reach these teens, the organization’s housing was becoming limited. The Harris TIPS renovation happened at the most opportune time and Ajax could not be more proud to have helped Starting Right Now increase their capacity.
