Georgia Department of Public Safety Service Building & Headquarters Upgrades
To meet the current and future programmatic needs of the Georgia Department of Public Safety (GDPS), a new Service Building was needed. The goal of the new building was to create one facility for all new State Troopers to visit directly after their initial training, in order to get outfitted with all of the necessary equipment to perform their job. It was envisioned the new facility would be a two story structural steel frame building constructed adjacent to the existing GDPS building. At a minimum, the new facility would include space for offices, open workstations, an employee lounge area, billeting space, a machine shop, a garage area for outfitting trooper’s vehicles, secure storage for weapons and ammunition, a computer workshop, a 3,500 pound freight elevator, as well as general storage and support spaces. The scope of work associated with the GDPS Service Building included the design and construction of a new 33,000 SF facility and approximately 42,000 SF of paved area around the new building.
The project scope also included the demolition of an existing 6,000 SF metal building currently located on the property near the site of the new Service Building. Once demolished, the foot print of this building was paved over to create an additional 7,000 SF of paved area.
