University of Florida Health East Entry Renovation

The $11.2 million University of Florida Health East Entry Atrium and Façade project was completed by Ajax Building Corporation and designed by Ponikvar and Associates.  The project included the attachment of a two-layered structural steel framework on the east façade of the existing 12-story north tower at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL. Attached to this framework are multi-colored stainless steel woven mesh fabric panels. The project also included interior demolition and renovation of the existing 8,000 SF east entry lobby/ reception area into the Sebastian Ferrero Atrium.  The area was designed with the youngest patients and their families in mind, features interactive video displays to entertain children and parents, nature-themed art, a reception desk and elevators that travel solely to floors housing pediatric units.
