Dirt will be moved next week as local and federal officials celebrate the beginning of the long-awaited expansion of the Putnam County Jail.
Although work crews have been doing construction on the expansion for nearly three weeks, the ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday will mark the beginning of the project, which is slated to finish early next year.
County Administrator Rick Leary said the construction managers – Jacksonville based Ajax Building Corp. and local business Armstrong Contracting – and architect RQAW have been overseeing site work for the jail.
