Officials say the new Property and Evidence building on Northwest Eighth Avenue will help the department with organization and make sure operations run smoothly. Gainesville city leaders approved the $19 million project in December. Gainesville Police Chief Nelson Moya says this is one way his officers are able to support crime victims. “In order for us to represent them and have justice for them, we must have systems and buildings and processes in place so that those are airlocked. That those cases are impenetrable,” Moya said.
