You can say it’s been a while coming. But construction of Pasco County Fire Rescue Station 19 is nearly done. “This is going to be a replacement station,” says Guynn. “It’s being upgraded to a two-story, which is going to be a huge benefit to the residents, and we’re excited to be almost completed.”
Station 19 will replace the old, aging facility that has sat vacant after being damaged from flooding during hurricanes Helene and Milton. Firefighters have been working out of trailers since. To prevent that from happening again, special designs were made for the new station, including constructing on elevated land.
“We learned some valuable lessons, and we know that we want to protect this fire station and these crews so that they’re here, especially during storm season and flooded issues,” Guynn said.
The re-vamped station also implements modern designs and features expected from fire crews, such as the decontamination zones when firefighters return from a call.
“We’re loaded with carcinogens, bad chemicals, things like that,” Guynn said. “We move into here and this is actually our warm zone where we have individualized showers that we can decon-clean everything off of us that causes the cancer before we actually move into the living areas. That helps protect us and keep our living areas clean as well.”
