District breaks ground on new elementary school
Palatka Daily NewsGo to https://www.palatkadailynews.com/index.php/ covered the recent groundbreaking of the forthcoming Putnam County School District’s Crescent City PK-6 school.
“Middleton-Burney Elementary School Principal Tiffany Scranton wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty Friday morning. In fact, she had been looking forward to it for a while. The Putnam County School District broke ground at the site of a new elementary school in Crescent City early Friday morning. Eleven Middleton-Burney students tossed the first shovelfuls of dirt to mark the start of construction on the $68 million elementary school. Scranton took a bag of that dirt from 1282 Huntington Road back to her school to act as a reminder of what is to come.
“We have 1,081 students right now and I was only able to bring 11 with me this morning,” she said. “But I told them before I left I was bringing a piece of our new home to our current home. So this dirt is going to go in a jar and be displayed in our front office with the Tonka truck (from the groundbreaking ceremony) just to remind everyone that new is coming and we’re ready to grow.”
