AJAX BUILDING CORPORATION BREAKS GROUND ON $16 MILLION PUTNAM COUNTY JAIL
Ajax Building Corporation joined Putnam County commissioners, law enforcement and federal government officials January 28 to ceremoniously break ground on the $16 million jail expansion.
The project includes construction of two pods — each containing 224 beds — as well as an expanded kitchen, a new medical and program facility, parking lots to ease traffic flow and an upgraded loading dock and processing area. It is being built on an active and occupied site and is expected to be completed in January 2016.
Sheriff Jeff Hardy, county commissioners and representatives with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development were among those who lined up in hard hats to celebrate the project by shoveling dirt on the site of the new buildings.
The jail is being constructed of pre-engineered metal using steel cell technology. Ajax Building Corporation is the construction manager and RQAW Corporation designed the project.
