FAMU’s New CASS Building Takes Shape as Centerpiece for Student Services

“All but some finishing touches by contractors remain, but for the most part the Center for Access and Student SuccessGo to https://www.tallahassee.com/story/news/2020/02/25/gov-ron-desantis-gets-look-famus-center-access-and-student-success/4854503002/ (CASS) is ready for full occupancy as the centerpiece for student services on the Florida A&M University campus… Today, that vision is realized in a nearly $40 million, three-story, 73,000-square-foot structure that is well appointed with spacious offices, meeting rooms, privacy areas for financial aid services and mental health counseling and an ample wing housing Student Health Services. It comes as students and employees continue to navigate through the coronavirus pandemic and plan for a new normal at Florida’s only historically black university,  currently ranked as the No. 1 public HBCU (historically black college or university) in the country.

FAMU’s Vice President for Student Affairs William E. Hudson Jr. is eager to lead a tour of the building. He said the new work environment has helped boost morale. “They are excited. They love it,” Hudson said of employees. “They appreciate an opportunity to be in a new space, with new technology, but also to be in an area (where) they are connected to other student services.”
