Leon County Detention Facility

At $38.8 Million, the Leon County Detention Facility is the largest project ever undertaken by the Florida’s Capital County. Covering 367,000 sf, the facility was designed and constructed to hold 1,192 inmates. Features include one of the nation’s most elaborate touch-screen systems which monitor all activities at the virtually “keyless” jail through closed-circuit television.

The facility includes 8 Pods that each consist of holding cells, a day room, mezzanine level, basketball court and juice bar.  The jail also has a medical clinic with 6 high security rooms, dental office, chapel, laundry facility, commercial kitchen, a courtroom with closed circuit TV and administration areas.

Construction began on April 29, 1991 and was completed on March 31, 1993, exactly one month ahead of schedule. The massive project included all electrical and HVAC work as well as the installation of chilled water and utilities. Site improvements and unique phasing plans were also implemented.
