PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
IIn 2002, the Duval County School Board selected Ajax Building Corporation as the Design-Build team to develop the new Oceanway Middle School on the site of old school. The new 129,000 SF design would accommodate 1200 student stations.
The new school was based on a prototype facility designed by Harvard Jolly Clees Toppe Architects and was comprised of 6 spaces.
1.) The kitchen and dining/multipurpose area will serve as lunchroom and auditorium
2.) The administration wing will serve the administrative staff of the school
3.) 3 wings are dedicated to classrooms and are designed around the house administrator concept (each grade in its own wing with appointed vice principal, counseling, clinic, etc.)
4) Library, technology , home economics, TV Studio and other auxillary spaces
5.) Gymnasium
6) Music suite
The project was completed Ahead of Schedule and Under Budget.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ajax Building Corporation on the fine work they have done to make the dream of Oceanway Middle School a reality. This major undertaking has been successfully completed due to the hard work and dedication of the competent team that was assigned to this project.”
