PROJECT FACTS:
• Renovations & Additions
• Completed 2 Months Ahead of Schedule
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Ajax Building Corporation was selected to complete the $18.6 million construction management contract, the first for Pinellas Schools, to complete a series of renovations and additions to Northeast High School in St. Petersburg.
Ajax worked with the Northeast High School Administration staff in developing the project-phasing plan because the school was an existing campus that would remain in use during construction. Construction began in late March of 1999 with the re-routing of existing utilities and demolition of several existing buildings. Phase one construction included a new cafeteria building, classroom building, and chiller plant. Phase two construction included a new art/music building and additions to an existing gymnasium. The construction also included a new press box for the football stadium, resurfacing of the track, reconstruction of the baseball field, new HVAC systems in the auditorium, renovation work to the automotive building, and reconstruction of the existing swimming pool.
Now that the project is completed, the renovated school serves over 1900 students. All areas of the campus were turned back over to the school on January 26, 2001 well ahead of the March 23, 2001 contractual substantial completion date.
