PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Replacing a 44-year old structure, the new $21 million dollar Arlington Middle School is the third consecutive school built for Duval County Public Schools by Ajax Building Corporation in Jacksonville, Florida. The new 167,000 SF school designed by Harvard Jolly, includes an administration complex, music suite, media center, reading room, cafeteria/auditorium, gymnasium, TV production lab, 47 classrooms and a six-room exceptional student education wing. The project was completed in two phases.
Phase 1 included building the new school campus in the location of the old athletic fields. This required keeping the existing campus in operation and to maintain the required separation between construction and the occupied school site. Once completed students moved into the new building and phase 2 began with demolition of the original structure.
Maintaining clear separation again between construction and school operations, Phase 2 was completed with installation of new athletic fields (softball, baseball, football, track) in the location of the original buildings.
This project was another success for Ajax Building Corporation and Duval County Public Schools and has led to the 4th consecutive project to be built by Ajax Building Corporation, a new K-8 complex on the existing site of Northshore Elementary School.
