PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The new, 97,000 SF, three-story facility, for the College of Education & Human Services was built on the West side of the campus between the Carpenter Library and the new Student Union Building. This new building contains classroom space, teaching labs, faculty offices, support space and student services. This new facility enables the College of Education and Human Services faculty, staff and programs, to be together under one roof for the first time in years. The project is anticipated to be certified LEED-NC Silver. The new facility was designed implementing the guidelines of the US Green Building Council for New Construction. It will provide educational opportunity, for the public and students, as an example of sustainable design and construction practices.
The building system includes concrete foundations and a structural steel building frame with metal stud wall framing. The building veneer features brick exterior walls with an extensive curtain wall system that utilized Arctic blue glass. The interior finishes include hard tile on the first floor lobby and monumental stairs with carpet in the remainder of the building. All area suites have interior glass wall systems and each has its own reception area. Interior steel columns are wrapped with rounded wood laminate panels. UNF Facilities staff have stated that the quality and workmanship in the mechanical rooms is the best exhibited on the campus and these rooms are now used as a standard for quality on current and future projects.
