NEWS:Ajax Breaks Ground on North Shore Elementary
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Replacing a 57-year old structure, the new $26 million dollar Northshore K-8 School is the fourth consecutive school built for Duval County Public Schools by Ajax Building Corporation in Jacksonville, Florida. The new 145,000 SF school, designed by Song & Associates, includes a new 1 and 2-story building and will include administration areas, classrooms, media center facilities, food services, dining, multi-purpose, gymnasium, site work, and utilities. This project will be completed in 3 phases to allow the school to remain functional on the existing site. Phase 1 consists of the demolition of the existing 3 block portables and media center and was completed July 2006. Phase 2 will include the new 1 and 2 story school which will be built around the existing school. Upon completion of Phase 2, students will transfer from the existing facility into the new facility. Phase 3 will consist of demolishing the existing school, and completing the parking lot and sports fields.
CURRENT STATUS (5/12/08):
On April 7, 2008 classes were held for the first time at the new North Shore K-8 School Number 70. Temporary fencing has been installed to separate the new school from the old school and the future ball fields. Demolition has started on the old North Shore Elementary and at the site of the future bus loop.
The underground rough-in of the Andrew Jackson Stadium Renovation is complete. The CMU and roof trusses for the expansion of building 1 (weight room) is complete and the new slab has been poured. Framing for buildings 1 and 2 is 90% complete. Fencing under the West bleachers has been installed and the new ADA ramps are 60% complete. DCPS is currently in the process of roofing buildings 1 and 2.
The North Shore K-8 School project and the Andrew Jackson Stadium Renovation remains on schedule and within budget.
